Playing Hooky

Yesterday, Luke played hooky from school (preschool) and hung out with Granny and PawPaw. I had asked Mom if he could come over because he's been having such a hard time liking school....well, actually, he loves school. It's the 2 hour nap time he has a hard time with because he has never been a napper. So when I asked him if he wanted to play hooky and stay at Granny and Paw Paw's for the day, he got the biggest smile on his face and said yes, of course. When Matthew and I got there to pick him up last night, Matthew asked him if he had played hooky today with Granny. He said no, very adamantly, that he had not played hooky. We said, yes, you did. And he growled again that he had not played hooky. So we tried explaining that skipping school to do something else meant you had played hooky. He wasn't going for it. Then, a lightbulb went off in Granny's head....that's what he's been saying all day! It seems my little guy had been asking Granny all day long when they were going to get to play that game. Mom had no idea what game he was talking about and kept telling him so. He was getting SO mad at her and telling her, "Yes, you do know!" His little mind thought hooky was a game that they were actually going to play. Of course, Matthew had to aggravate him all the way home about playing hooky. Luke, all the while, screaming how he never got to play anything! Bless his little heart!

Sometimes kids are a one person walking comedy show aren't they? We laugh at some of the things both kids say so innocently. Those are the kind of memories we tell the kids when they grow up, so they can have a laugh too. Great story.
